The press is still dissecting every inch of the Activision Blizzard financial call that made the StarCraft 2 delay into 2010 official, but one question stuck out in my head while I was listening in. Activision Blizzard has said in the past that we can expect one major release from Blizzard a year, so with StarCraft 2 being released in 2010, will we get two?
One analyst asked just that during the call, since the delay of StarCraft 2 isn't expected to impact Diablo 3. Both StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 launching in the same year would be a rather epic thing for gamers, but Blizzard isn't quite ready to say that it's going to happen.
"I would just like to reiterate that we haven’t announced any release dates on any future titles. And I will also reiterate that the move of Starcraft into next year does not impact the schedule and so it would be correct to conclude that you could expect two releases of Blizzard next year," Michael Morhaime, the president and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment said on the call, "but I would not make any conclusion on what those titles are going to be."
Now, I'm going to go on record and guess that the games will in fact be StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3, and Morhaime is simply keeping his cards close to the vest, but this does leave room for speculation that there could be another game that will come between the release of those two huge properties. Would anyone like to begin the wild guesses?
